LUMINOUS Plastic Optical Fibers

Sojitz Europe plc., Düsseldorf Branch is the exclusive European distributor for Plastic Optical Fibers (POF) produced by ASAHI Chemical, Japan. These products are sold under the trademark LUMINOUS.

The LUMINOUS product range covers light guides and image guides up to 7.4000 pixels.

The core of LUMINOUS POF is made of high-purity PMMA covered by a special fluorinated polymer cladding structure which makes it the one of the lowest attenuation POF available.

Excellent optical properties, especially in the visible range and high numerical aperture make LUMINOUS POF the best choice for data transmission, sensors, illumination and decoration, measuring technology and the automotive industry.


Large fiber diameters ranging from 0,5 mm to 3,0 mm and good mechanical properties enable LUMINOUS POF to be handled and processed much easier than glass fibers. Cutting, arrangement, glueing and polishing requires only simple tools and a few steps for a fast and cost effective assembly.

Due to the use of different jacketing materials like Polyethylene (PE), PVC, Polyurethane (PUR) or Polyamide (PA) LUMINOUS POF cover a broad range of applications. Even UL-approved fibers are available.
